After a patient has received scaling and root planing, or deeper cleaning of the teeth, it is recommended that you have a three month follow up visit to evaluate how the gums have healed. Gum disease can regress, so your at home care and regular check ups are crucial to your periodontal health. The dentist will determine whether to see you every three months, four months, or six months based on your individual needs. Local anesthetic may or may not be used at these appointments, but your dentist will always discuss this with you first.
